No one but Night, with tears on her dark face watches beside me in this windy place.

It rains and the wind is never weary;
The vine still clings to the mould'ring wall,
But at ev'ry gust the dead leaves fall,
At ev'ry gust the dead leaves fall.
And the day is dark and dreary.
My life is cold and dark and dreary;
It rains and the wind is never weary;
My thoughts still cling to the mould'ring Past
But the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast,
The hopes of youth fall thick in the blast,
And the days are dark and dreary.
Be still sad heart! and cease repining;
Behind the clouds is the sun still shining;
Thy fate is the common fate of all,
Into each life some rain must fall,
Some rain must fall,
Some days must be dark and dreary,
Some days must be dark and dreary.
Henry Longfellow

“Sometimes our fate resembles a fruit tree in winter. Who would think that those branches would turn green again and blossom, but we hope it, we know it.”
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe“For this is wisdom - to love and live, To take what fate or the gods may give, To ask no question, to make no prayer, To kiss the lips and caress the hair, Speed passion's ebb as we greet its flow, To have and to hold, and, in time let go”
“Fate is like gravity. You can jump up and down until your heart’s content, but the earth still falls into the sun, and the sun still courses through the galaxy, both indifferent to your short-lived and insignificant defiance.”

I thinking I am getting good at not expecting anything from others. I am learning to just take what comes, to expect that as a human they will fail me at some point. Cynical, I know, but it's the only way I can keep making it.

Blonde...
I took out 2 cardboard men, unfolded them and stood them at the rear Of my car facing oncoming traffic. They look so lifelike you wouldn't believe!
They are in trenc h coats, exposing their nude bodies and private parts to the approaching drivers.
I started to change my tire, and to my surprise, cars started slowing down looking at my lifelike men. And of course, traffic started backing up.
Everybody was tooting their horns and waving like crazy. It wasn't long before a state trooper pulled up behind me.
He got out of his car and started walking towards me. I could tell he was not a happy camper!
"What's going on here? "
"My car has a flat tire," I said calmly.
"Well, what the h ell are those obscene cardboard men doing here by the road?"
I couldn't believe that he didn't know. . .
So I told him, "Hello-o-o-o-o-o, . . . those are my emergency flashers!"

It's just so hard not to look back and think of how they wronged or hurt us. It's human nature to be anger, upset, feel misunderstood, to analyze and try and figure out what went wrong, what you could have done to keep it or make it better. Thinking like this just drives you crazy. Better to greet each encounter with joy, take as much from it as you can, and as it passes by remember all things pass on by. Be glad it passed....better is on it's way!

A ruff and ready playmate
By Dave Barry, Miami Herald (back column)
I'm trying to convince my wife that we need a dog. I grew up with dogs, and am comfortable with their ways. If we're visiting someone's home, and I suddenly experience a sensation of humid warmth, and I look down and see that my right arm has disappeared up to the elbow inside the mouth of a dog the size of a medium horse, I am not alarmed. I know that this is simply how a large, friendly dog says: "Greetings! You have a pleasing salty taste!" I respond by telling the dog that he is a GOOD BOY and pounding him with hearty blows, blows that would flatten a cat like a hairy pancake, but which only make the dog like me more. He likes me so much that he goes and gets his Special Toy.
This is something that used to be a recognizable object--a stuffed animal, a basketball, a Federal Express driver--but has long since been converted, through countless hours of hard work on the dog's part, into a random wad of filth. "GIVE ME THAT!" I shout, grabbing an end of the Special Toy. This pleases the dog: It confirms his belief that his Special Toy is the most desirable item in the universe, more desirable even than the corpse of a squirrel. For several seconds we fight for this prize, the dog whipping his head side to side like a crazed windshield wiper. Finally, I yank the Special Toy free and hold it aloft. The dog watches it with laser-beam concentration, waiting for me to throw it ... waiting ... waiting ... until finally I cock my arm, and, with a quick motion I ...
... fake a throw. I'm still holding the Special Toy. But WHOOOSH, the dog has launched himself across the room, reaching a velocity of 75 miles per hour before WHAM he slams headfirst into the wall at the far end of the room. This stimulates the M&M-size clump of nerve cells that serves as a dog's brain to form a thought: The Special Toy is not here! The dog whirls, sees the toy in my hand and races back across the room. Just as he reaches me, I cock my arm and ...
... fake another throw. WHOOOSH! WHAM! The fake works again! It will always work. I can keep faking throws until the dog has punched a dog-shaped hole completely through the far wall, and the dog will STILL sprint back to me, believing that THIS time I'm going to throw the toy. This is one reason why I love dogs.
My wife is less impressed. She fails to see the appeal of an animal that appears to be less intelligent than its own parasites. Oh, I've tried to explain the advantages of having a dog. For example:
A DOG IS ALWAYS READY. It doesn't matter for what: Dogs are just ready. If you leave your car window open, the dog will leap into the car and sit there for hours. The dog knows that sometimes the car just starts moving, and you have to be ready! Usually the dog will sit in the driver's seat, in case (You never know!) the dog is called upon to steer.
A DOG IS VIGILANT. One time, on a movie set, I watched a small dog walk past a line of six metal light stands. When the dog came to the sixth light stand--which was EXACTLY the same as the other five light stands--the dog stopped and began barking furiously at it. Clearly the dog had detected some hostile intent in this particular light stand, something that we humans, with our inferior senses, were not aware of. We humans were thinking: "What's WRONG with that dog?" Whereas the light stand was thinking: "Whew! That was close!" These are just a couple of examples of the practical benefits provided by dogs.
I have tried pointing them out to my wife, but she doesn't see it. This is why, in our house, we have fish. They're nice fish but they're not a whole lot of fun. Although they are excellent drivers.

Trust?

Dare I trust you? I want to, but with each passing day I am finding it harder too.
Dare I believe in what you say to me? I wish I could, but I know fate will make you untrue.
I can only go on what I see, hear and feel & from what I am see I am losing you.
Make me believe and trust again!

Women Can Smell a Man's Intentions

By Melinda Wenner, LiveScience, January 9, 2009
The twinkle in his eye, his swagger, that sexy smile--all are clear signs he's in the mood.
And, at least subconsciously, a woman can also tell by the scent of his sweat, according to new research.
Scientists have long debated whether humans, like animals, use chemical signals called pheromones to communicate sexual interest to potential mates. Problem is, the effects of pheromones are thought to be subconscious--meaning that if we do communicate using them, we sure don't know it. It's also hard to know what these pheromones might be and how we sense them, so researchers understand little about them.
But if human pheromones are going to be anywhere, they're going to be in sweat, right? Denise Chen, a psychologist at Rice University in Houston, and her colleagues devised an experiment to compare how women respond to different forms of male sweat--sweat produced in everyday situations versus that produced when a man is turned on.
The researchers speculated that if humans do produce and respond to sweat pheromones, then a woman should respond to a guy's sexual sweat differently than she does to his normal sweat.
Chen and her colleagues asked 20 heterosexual guys to stop wearing deodorant and scented products for a few days. Then they told the men to put small pads in their armpits as they watched pornographic videos and became aroused (the researchers confirmed, using electrodes, that the images did the job). Later, the guys were asked to exchange those pads for fresh pads to collect the sweat they produced when they weren't aroused.
Then the researchers recruited 19 brave women to smell the men's pads while undergoing brain scans.
The investigators used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), a technique that reveals the brain regions a person is using at any given time--even if their brain activity is subconscious.
Sure enough, the women's brains responded very differently depending on which sweat they sniffed. (And no, none of them passed out.) The sexual sweat, but not the normal sweat, activated the right orbitofrontal cortex and the right fusiform cortex, brain areas that help us recognize emotions and perceive things, respectively. Both regions are in the right hemisphere, which is generally involved in smell, social response, and emotion.
The findings bolster the idea that humans do communicate via subconscious chemical signals, notes Chen in her study, which was published in the Dec. 31 issue of the Journal of Neuroscience.
Our sexual intentions, in other words, may be a lot clearer than we ever intended them to be. That crush you have on your co-worker? She may already know--at least subconsciously.

I want to disappear...
I know so much, yet the knowing doesn't make the understanding any easier.
I can say with my whole heart I don't want it, yet He does not listen.
I can truly say I don't want this life, yet I still must live it.

What powers of resistance are in his soul?
How long the vital energy will continue to throw off the never-ending seduction, the freshening force of evil?
Therein lies the power of evil, that it is ever new, ever fortified by continuous conquest and
achievements. It has the rare fire of aggression; is ever more upon the offence than upon the defence; has, withal, the false lure of freedom from restraint, the throbbing force of sympathy.

Love guru
ZOSIA BIELSKI. Globe and Mail, December 11, 2008
'A crush is like a love disease. It can drive you mad."
That's wisdom from nine-year-old Alec Greven. After watching his classmates mingling at recess, the Colorado third-grader decided the boys needed some help.
With a creative writing assignment due, Alec spun his observations into a pamphlet called How to Talk to Girls--which then sold for $3 (U.S.) at the school fair. The project has gained Alec international media coverage, a publishing deal and now a film deal--Fox bought the rights on Tuesday.
While some of his advice is kid stuff ("Control your hyperness and cut down on sugar if necessary"), some of it could benefit most grown men. Consider this suggestion from Chapter 1: "You also have to be aware that girls win most of the arguments and have most of the power. If you know that now, things might be easier."
There are also chapters on crushes, compliments and the thrill of victory. The 46-page book is selling in 17 countries. Ahead of Alec's appearance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien last night, we spoke with the pint-sized pickup artist.
What did you see on the playground last year when you were in Grade 3?
I saw boys having trouble getting girls to like them, getting ditched and getting all miserable and everything, so I wanted to write a book that helped them.
What were these boys doing wrong?
Usually their brains turned to mush and they [would] say something wrong.
So tell me about pretty girls. They seem pretty scary.
Well, pretty girls, all they care about is their looks. That's why we call them pretty girls. You can go for regular girls because regular girls can be pretty too. They just have other things on their minds.
What do you mean when you say, "Pretty girls, like cars, need a lot of oil?"
That kind of means, you know how oil costs money and it takes work to put the oil in the car? If you're trying to get a pretty girl to like you, there's a 98-per-cent chance that she'll ditch you.
So that's higher than the regular percentage right? Regular girls ditch boys 73 per cent of the time?
Yes.
Have you become interested in girls at all through this whole experience?
I'm a little young to go out dating and everything with girls yet. I'm friends with girls.
How did they react to your book?
They actually thought it was pretty funny. Some, they want to write How to Talk to Boys.
GIRLS 101
"If you like a girl, comb your hair and don't wear sweats. You don't have to try too hard, but just try to look kind of clean."
"Go for a talkative girl if you are shy. Then you only have to say one sentence, and she will do the rest of the talking."
"When you see a pretty girl, don't let her tractor beam pull you in. ... If you are really confident, go for it!"
"Do you think that attracting a girl's attention means flapping your arms like a chicken and making noise? No way."
"Whatever happens, don't let it make you crazy."

I'm in love
Claire, this song is for you. If I could grant you one wish... I would give the gift of feeling for someone like this, but more importantly having it returned. You more than any one I know deserve love. May this year bring it to you!
I don't know about anything anymore...

I don't understand what you are thinking.
I don't get what you want from me.
I don't see how we will go on.
I don't want it to end, but at the same time I wish it would all just disappear.

Bible probably not true, says George Bush

"This President...makes me laugh!"
US President George W Bush has said that the Bible is "probably not" literally true and that a belief that God created the world is compatible with the theory of evolution.
But "evolution is an interesting subject. I happen to believe that evolution doesn't fully explain the mystery of life," said the president, an outspoken Christian who often invokes God in his speeches.
"I think that God created the Earth, created the world; I think the creation of the world is so mysterious it requires something as large as an almighty and I don't think it's incompatible with the scientific proof that there is evolution," he told ABC television.
Asked whether the Bible was literally true, Mr Bush replied: "Probably not. No, I'm not a literalist, but I think you can learn a lot from it."
"The important lesson is 'God sent a son,'" he said.

Life is just a game. I don't control my moves. There is someone playing my character and I am at their mercy. They do with me what they will, throw me here, throw me there. They sit and watch my pain, they laugh at my tears. The give me highs, but makes sure that the lows are bad enough that I forget the highs. It's all a big joke. There is no way out. They preprogrammed you with so much guilt that the ability to make decisions based on what you truly want is cut out from you. You do things because you have to, not because you want to. You live the life they chose for you. And the life just goes on & on. No matter how you beg to be let out, to be give a different path they don't listen. They are laughing to hard to even hear you. This is not living, I'd rather not be. Yet, I can't find the exit door. I have been made to feel that even the thought of that exit door is a huge no no. What can I do? I am trapped & life is just getting worse and worse.
